Message from Republican Congress Candidate Andy Barr
First and foremost, I want to thank you for the invitation to join WROCK Thursday evening during the candidate forum. I enjoyed being able to see many of you and talk about issues facing the 6th district and our nation.
The Barr for Congress campaign team has been busy on the campaign trail over the past few weeks. I continued my Jobs Tour, recently visiting businesses in Harrison, Bath, Nicholas and Fleming Counties.
In addition to the Jobs Tour, I was honored to receive the Guardian of Seniors’ Rights award from the 60 Plus Association, and received endorsements from the National Vietnam & Gulf War Veterans Coalition and the Kentucky Right to Life.
Monday evening I participated in the KET 6th District Primary Debate. I thought it was a good discussion about the need for fundamental change in Washington and the importance of defeating Ben Chandler to help get Kentuckians back to work.
Elect Don Butler to State Senate
If you live in Kentucky’s 9th Senate district (Allen, Barren, Edmonson, Green, Metcalfe and Simpson counties) you have an important decision to make. If you don’t like to have your taxes increased and your state’s debt increased beyond our ability to pay, you need a new state Senator.
If you want a public servant who responds to you and listens to your concerns, you need a new state Senator. And if you want an elected representative to shake up the good old boy system rather than becoming part of it, you need a new state Senator.
In order to make that happen, I need your help. Please invite all registered Republicans who live in our 9th Senate district to this very important “event.”
Thank you,
Don

Bill Polyniak – 9th District Council Race
The city of Stockton, CA could soon become the largest city in the United States ever to claim bankruptcy. This is ominous for Lexington because several years ago, Lexington-sized Stockton began pouring money into redevelopment, infill development, and sustainability, just as we are beginning to do.
In Lexington, our annual debt service payments are $34 million and growing. Incredibly, this amounts to 13% of all expenditures, more than the federal government spends in interest on the national debt. The city’s financial house of cards is about to come crashing down.
Unfortunately, instead of establishing fiscal discipline, City Hall will sink the ship with an incredible amount of new spending.
One example is the $300 million downtown redevelopment plan. The plan’s expanded convention space had been touted as a financial boon for the city, but the details of the plan talk about something quite different.
Most of the plan talks about greenhouse gas emissions, high density mixed-use developments, and transportation by foot and bicycle.
In addition to the downtown plan, there are over 30 Tax Increment Financing (TIF) projects in the works. The common thread is redevelopment, infill development, and sustainability.
The motivation for this reckless spending is rooted in our membership in the International Council on Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI). ICLEI circumvents international governments by infiltrating local governments in order to fight global warming. They focus on high density mixed use developments in the name of sustainability.
Membership in ICLEI is what sparked Stockton’s spending spree to bankruptcy. Ironically, branding bad ideas as “sustainable” is proving in Stockton and many other communities to be unsustainable.
As an outdoorsman who chose to adopt Lexington as my family’s home for the unparalleled beauty, I understand the value of sound environmental policy. However, recycling ICLEI’s failed policies will only accelerate Lexington toward insolvency.
